Corporate Responsibility
Fairtrade Policy
The Fairtrade Foundation licenses the FAIRTRADE Mark to products which meet internationally recognised standards. The Wicked Coffee Company has signed the Foundation’s Licence Agreement, which provides a licence to use the Mark and to distribute Fairtrade products. We are independently audited. Our primary aims are to raise awareness of the FAIRTRADE Mark, to deepen understanding of the Mark and to increase our sales of Fairtrade certified products. We produce promotional material such as posters, whilst also using the Foundation’s own material, to raise awareness and to promote product sales. Each year in March we support the Fairtrade Fortnight, when clients across the country are supported by us to promote Fairtrade. We are supported in this work by our suppliers and the Fairtrade Foundation. In conjunction with our suppliers we are working to introduce new Fairtrade products and to update the standards for existing products.
Environmental Policy
The Wicked Coffee Company Limited acknowledges that it has both a legal and moral responsibility to consider environmental impact at all levels of business, including its Purchasing Policy, and to ensure that best practice solutions to manage environmental issues are incorporated into business policies.
The Wicked Coffee Company will ensure that resources are available to assist with those decisions. It will comply with all relevant laws and regulations in the countries in which it operates. This policy is supported by our Environmental Management documents which are in the development stage and set out specific areas of action and responsibility within the fields of:
Both policy and management documents will be reviewed at least annually. It is the responsibility of The Wicked Coffee Company board and myself, as managing director, to ensure that this policy is implemented.
To ensure that this policy is implemented throughout The Wicked Coffee Company, and to drive a continual improvement in environmental performance, this policy requires the support and action of all employees. Communication, training, and consultation are, therefore, a key requirement at all levels. Environmental objectives and performance will be reviewed annually.
Equal Opportunities Statement
The Wicked Coffee Company Limited recognises that there are disadvantaged groups in our society and aims to provide equality of opportunity in employment. This means that:
• to ensure that the talents and resources of employees are used to the full, no employee or job applicant shall receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of sex, marital status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins, or any other characteristic unrelated to the performance of the job.
• all reasonable practical steps will be taken to ensure that problems relating to access or equipment do not debar disabled applicants from employment.
Recruitment
In order to ensure a wide response from suitable applicants, vacancies are advertised in the press, including publications aimed at specific ethnic groups, and local job centres. Selection will be in accordance with objective, job-related criteria, and procedures will be reviewed periodically to ensure that individuals are selected, promoted and treated solely on the basis of their merits and abilities which are appropriate to the job. Relevant training and supervision will be provided to all employees involved in staff selection.
Personnel Procedures and Monitoring
Personnel policies and procedures will be reviewed regularly to improve, amend or adapt current practices to promote equality of opportunity. Relevant data will be collected to enable the operation of the policy to be monitored. Personal details provided for this purpose by employees or applicants for jobs will be kept confidentially, apart from all other records and will not be used for any other purpose.
Conditions of Service
The interpretation and application of all conditions of service will be consistent with the equal opportunities policy. This includes opportunities for training and promotion, which will be brought to the attention of all eligible employees.
All employees have a responsibility to accept their personal involvement in the practical application of this policy. Supervisory staff are under a special obligation to promote equality of opportunity in their own areas of responsibility. Any employee or applicant who believes that he or she has been the victim of harassment or who has been discriminated against is entitled to raise the matter through the appropriate grievance procedure. Any unfair discrimination by an employee is a matter of serious concern to the Board and will result in disciplinary action.
